Description

Leaves from a fine calligraphic Muraqqa, in Farsi and Arabic, illuminated manuscripts on paper [Ottoman and Persian Empires, fourteenth to seventeenth centuries] three leaves, comprising: (i) central panel formed of one line of black naskh with a colophon signed Yusuf ibn ‘Abdullah and dated 1004 AH (1595 AD), with rectangular panels of verse in nasta’liq forming borders around the central panel, borders in green, marbled paper pasted to the reverse; (ii) central panel formed of decoupage muhaqqaq script, framed within panels of naskh verses from various sources; (iii) central panel formed of a fine nasta’liq quatrain, copied on silver-speckled orange paper, border formed of small rectangular naskh and nasta’liq panels; all a little rubbed with slight surface soiling, each leaf c. 365 by 240 mm. Provenance: From the property of the late Jafar Ghazi, originally dispersed in Sotheby’s, 19 October 2016, lot 125.
